Description
Mary Stenson shares a rare and warm archive recording of Frank Duff himself, aged 90, being interviewed by the Philadelphia Senatus in 1979. Frank recalls the remarkable story of Joseph Gabbard and his apostolic work among British soldiers at Richmond Barracks, including the famous evening when 70 men turned up for confession. Mary also reads from Finola Kennedy’s biography of Frank Duff, tracing the Legion’s earliest days in Dublin, the key role of women from the beginning, the book barrel ministry on O’Connell Street, and how Frank’s perseverance opened the first branch outside Ireland in Glasgow in 1928.
