Today we’re starting a brand new series — one of the most meaningful things I’ve made for this podcast. On my last trip to Guatemala, I sat down with Luis González, one of the directors of the Cultural Spanish School in San Pedro La Laguna, who shared the story of his late wife, Ingrid, diagnosed with leukemia in 2018. Over this series, we’ll follow her story from the very first symptoms through diagnosis, treatment, and her passing — learning the Spanish to talk about all of it along the way.

Sí, en la pantorrilla. Entonces, ella tuvo un enrojecimiento y era muy interesante porque en las dos piernas estaba estaba como el mismo tamaño y en el mismo nivel de ambas piernas.

Sí. Exacto. Era una mancha como morada más o menos. Y fuimos al doctor porque a ella siempre le había dolido los pies desde que era niña. Y entonces, con este problema que ella empezó a mostrar, no le dolía ni nada. Era solo un
