Published 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Description

Fr. Peter George Flynn and Mary Hooton report from the Happiness Conference at the Galway Bay Hotel, where Fathers Gregory Pine, Toby Lees and Conor McDonough delivered talks on the question of what happiness really is. Fr. Peter interviews Fr. Gregory Pine on his striking phrase that God made us because he thought we might like it, and on his book about prudence as the charioteer of the virtues. He then speaks with Fr. Toby Lees, who previews his talk on acedia as the great enemy of happiness in the modern world, and the role our phones play in pulling us away from the present moment. Attendees share their thoughts on their favourite happy saint and the last time they experienced God in nature, with answers ranging from St. Francis and St Pier Giorgio Frassati to the daffodils on the way in and the moon the night before.
