Perfect Sunday Beach Weather New York Small Surf Mellow Conditions Mid Seventies Low Rip Current Risk

Published 1 month ago
Description
Good morning, this is your Sunday surf zone forecast for the New York beaches brought to you by the National Weather Service in Upton.

Today looks like a beautiful day to get out to the beach. We're expecting mostly sunny skies across all our forecast areas, with just some clouds clearing out through the morning hours. Highs will reach the mid to upper seventies, making for comfortable beach weather as we head into late September.

The surf will be running small and mellow at around two feet throughout the day. This is perfect for those looking to enjoy the water without any gnarly conditions. Speaking of water safety, rip current risk remains low across all our beaches from Brooklyn out to eastern Long Island. That said, remember that life threatening rip currents can always develop near groins, jetties, reefs, and piers, so stay aware of your surroundings.

Winds will be light and variable, generally coming from the south to southeast at around five miles per hour, with some areas seeing them shift southwest as we move into the afternoon. This light wind pattern will keep conditions pleasant throughout the day.

Water temperatures are in the upper sixties to lower seventies, so you might want to consider a wetsuit depending on your cold tolerance. The UV index is running moderate today, so don't forget your sunscreen even though we're heading into fall.

High tides will occur around midday across our beaches, with highs ranging from about twelve thirty-four PM out at East Rockaway Inlet to around twelve thirty-nine PM in Brooklyn. Sunrise this morning is around six forty-five to six forty-eight AM depending on your location, with sunset happening around six thirty-seven to six forty-five PM.

It's worth noting this is the final forecast of the season from our office, so we hope you've enjoyed our daily updates throughout the year. Get out there and enjoy what looks to be a fantastic beach day across the New York area.
