What Faith Looks Like When Hope Is Gone
“Let us also go, that we may die with him.” — John 11:16
What do we do
when we’ve lost hope?
Thomas was under no illusions.
Jesus was a wanted man.
And if they followed him back to Jerusalem,
they would likely die with him.
They weren’t going to overcome Rome.
They weren’t going to win by force.
Sometimes it becomes clear
that our best will not be enough,
and the outcomes we long for
will not come anytime soon—
if at all.
Thomas, in that moment, wasn’t hopeful.
But he was still faithful.
He was so committed to the way of Jesus
that he accepted whatever might come.
What about us?
Will we continue to walk in the way of love
even when we cannot see it working out
in our favor?
Thomas did.
And though it took time,
he witnessed resurrection.
When hope feels gone,
we are still invited to trust—
that faithful footsteps
can carry us home.
I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
