Does Anything We Do Matter?
“Jesus said, ‘Take away the stone.’” — John 11:39
Does anything we do matter?
Can we really make a difference?
Lazarus was already dead, buried, and sealed in the tomb. What difference could it make if they removed the stone?
When we look at our lives and at the problems of the world, it can all feel too much—too deep, too high, too overwhelming to face. We are tempted to throw up our hands and give up before we have even begun.
But in the raising of Lazarus, we are given a pattern for redemption and transformation.
The community removes the obstacle.
God gives the power.
The individual comes forward.
And the community helps restore them to life among others.
Before resurrection happens, someone still has to roll away the stone.
We may not be able to do everything. But we are still called to do what is ours to do—to remove what stands in the way of life, healing, and hope.
What we do matters.
