Episode Details

Committees of Correspondence were a critical part of the pre-revolutionary period that is poorly understood or studied. These became known in the colonies following the First Continental Congress. They provided a planning and coordination mechanism that helped keep leadership informed and shape the future form of government. Connected to these were the Committees of Safety that were county based, that had the charge to enforce boycotts, identify loyalists and eventually conduct tribunals.
