When We Are Ready for a Fresh Start

“If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you…” — Psalm 130:3–4

We can be hard on each other.

And we can be hard on ourselves.

Too often, people are remembered for their mistakes.

Their reputations get defined by the worst things they have ever done.

We can end up carrying the weight of our past, never quite believing we are allowed to move forward.

Even in our private thoughts, we can fixate on the parts of ourselves that feel broken.

But there is another way.

The love of God meets us with mercy and renews us day by day.

Our deepest identity is not failure, shame, or regret.

Our deepest identity is beloved children of God, bound to one another as brothers, sisters, and siblings.

God’s love does not hold our past against us.

It sustains us in the present and calls us toward the future.

And as we begin to receive that love for ourselves, we become more able to share it with each other.

When we are ready for a fresh start,

love is already there to welcome us.

I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope. Peace be with you.
