Description
Deacon Don and Fr. Pat continue their series on the Catechism’s teaching on prayer, turning to the first two petitions of the Our Father. Fr. Pat offers a fresh and searching reading of “hallowed be thy name,” drawing on Ezekiel 36 to argue that this petition is primarily asking God to hallow his own name — to show forth his holiness through works of mercy, justice, and healing in and through believers. He then unpacks “thy kingdom come” as a prayer for God’s benevolent authority to be made visible in the world now, and for the fullness of the kingdom at Christ’s second coming. The conversation closes with a moving reflection on conscience, love, and St. John of the Cross’s insight that in the evening of our lives, we will be judged on love alone.
