Calgarys Youth Bike Hub Opens: Free Repairs & Community Support
Calgarys youth now have a new spot to fix up their bikes, just in time for spring. The Bike Hub, a community shop offering repair help and parts for kids, opened on March seventeenth through a partnership between Youth En Route and Bathtubs for Bikes. The twenty-dollar annual membership, which can be waived if needed, fills a gap for the group that last year gave away seven hundred two bikes and taught nearly four thousand kids how to ride. The shop also fights bike waste with trade-up programs and hopes to recycle abandoned ones from landfills. Funding comes from an eighteen-month grant and private gifts, so organizers are pushing for more support to keep it going long-term.
