Unsolved Coventry Cold Case: Who Killed Penelope Mogano in 1954?

Published 8 hours ago
Description
A locked house. Two weapons. No theft. Penelope Mogano was found dead in Coventry in 1954 after a short afternoon window when no one should have been inside.

Penelope Phyllis Mogano was a 44 year old ballroom dancer living in Radford, Coventry, Warwickshire. On 18 January 1954, she was attacked inside her home during the space of less than two hours. Her husband and son had both left the house. There were no signs of forced entry, and nothing was taken.

A kitchen carving knife was found across her lap. A blunt weapon used in the attack was never recovered. Police questioned more than twenty five thousand people and took over ten thousand statements. A bogus electrical inspector seen nearby, a man with a heavily bandaged hand, and earlier arson incidents linked to her dancing circle were all investigated.

The Coventry Dancing Queen murder remains one of the most unsettling UK historical cold cases and a lasting British true crime mystery.
