06. Is Your Elderly Parent Becoming Isolated? A Local Resource That Helps Protect Brain Health

Episode 6 Published 5 months, 2 weeks ago
Description

Have you noticed your parent spending more time alone lately?

Maybe they’ve stopped going out as much. Friends have moved away or have passed away. Mobility may be an issue in getting together with others.

A research study published in the American Medical Association journal, JAMA, found that social isolation significantly increases the risk of dementia.

That’s a sobering reality for families who want to help their parents stay mentally healthy and engaged as they age.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing a simple local resource often overlooked that can make a real difference: community and senior centers.

I recently toured a local center and was surprised by everything they offer and how affordable many of these programs are.

🎧 IN THIS EPISODE

✔️ Why social isolation can impact brain health in aging adults
✔️ What actually happens inside a community or senior center
✔️ Typical costs and accessibility of these programs
✔️ How these centers help seniors stay socially connected
✔️ Why this resource can help parents age in place longer

Sometimes the best solutions aren’t complicated.

A local community center might be one of the simplest ways to support your parents’ independence, mental health, and daily engagement.
