Retrotopia Talks Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

Episode 148 Published 1 week ago
Description

Welcome to another episode of Retrotopia: Another Video Game Podcast. This is a show where we, Alan, Brian, and Sam, get together to discuss video games from years gone by. We like to look at video games from the perspective of lifelong gamers and how they hold up in the retro sphere.

This week we are discussing The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, a Nintendo GameCube game released in 2002 that sends players sailing across a vast, sun-drenched ocean in one of the most stylistically unique adventures in the Zelda series. When Link’s sister Aryll is kidnapped by a mysterious bird under the command of the sinister Ganondorf, Link sets out across the Great Sea with the help of a talking boat called the King of Red Lions.

Known for its bold cel-shaded art style, expressive characters, and sense of discovery, The Wind Waker has players charting islands, exploring dungeons, solving puzzles, and conducting the wind itself with the magical Wind Waker baton. Along the way, Link uncovers the secrets of a flooded Hyrule while gathering the power needed to stop Ganondorf and restore hope to the world beneath the waves.
