Kelly Buchberger, a ninth-round draft pick from 1985, climbed to number forty-three on the Oilers updated top one hundred list. Known for his grit and work ethic, he played nearly eight hundred games, winning two Stanley Cups. Despite modest junior stats, he earned a Cup ring in 1987 and became a regular in 1988. He peaked with twenty goals in 1991-92 and wore the captains C from 1995-96. Buchberger led surprise playoff runs, including upsets over Dallas, before being picked by Atlanta in the expansion draft. He coached after retiring, serving as an assistant with the Oilers from 2008 to 2014.
