Yaya Han's Book - Part Five - The Industry of Cosplay

Season 3 Episode 81

We’ve talked about Yaya’s book all week and covered the first 4 sections – feel free to listen to the Podcasts that summarize the book

Buy the book – Yaya’s really great about getting it to you right away. She signed it for me and even included a signed print. Above and beyond.

In this final section, I think it covers the most ground of any section of the book.

It goes over really how Yaya Han went from Cosplayer to Business Owner and developed partnerships, protected intellectual property, and in a short amount of time saw a lot of growth professionally.

Results not typical – but it reinforces my statements on the show – there’s no overnight success, there’s no secrets to success – it’s work, dedication, consistency, and unfortunately, a fair amount of luck overall.

It’s nice to know that the things that I’ve talked about on the show and how to go about creating a brand, and turning a hobby into something more are outlined and encouraged in Yaya’s book.

I’m very happy to see that she puts a lot of emphasis to controlling your own brand – having a website and a central place for your creations that is not just Social Media.

There’s not a lot about commerce and how to achieve this – Yaya believes in relatable content and relationship building in this industry.  I do too – but there’s definitely a way to SEO your way through Cosplay if you’re providing product or service.

Importantly – she talks about the most important reasons to do this and it’s not about fame or money. It’s about solving a problem for your customers/clients.  Well done.

My overall thoughts on this book – it’s well written, well informed, well researched, and provides a great overview to a large audience looking to get into, understand more about, or be inspired to try more with Cosplay.  There’s even a resource section to help you along – I highly recommend spending the $25 plus shipping to have a copy of this book – digital or physical.

Her website is also great – she’s done a lot to customize it, and it’s built on wix, so for anyone looking to create a website, you don’t have to know everything about coding, but there are a lot of options.

Check it out – I’m not paid to say any of this, I just find that Yaya is a great resource to the Cosplay community and a great example of someone who saw white space in something, saw it’s potential, and made a decision to make an impact – with what she had, where she way, and learned and developed skills as she went.
