The Deadliest Enemy Man Has Ever Known - Pearls of Wisdom 080

Published 1 month, 1 week ago
Description
Man is a creation surrounded by many enemies. From the beginning of history, there have been forces that envy his prosperity and seek to rob him of his freedom. Empires have risen and fallen, leaving trails of bondage and broken lives behind them. Yet, God never intended for man to live in chains. For the Bible declares, "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17). Whenever freedom is lost, we can be sure that sin is close at hand. Man faces many enemies that attack his physical body. Diseases have plagued humanity from generation to generation. When one illness seems to be brought under control, another rises and spreads across cities, nations, and even the world. Because of these afflictions, doctors, nurses, and researchers labor tirelessly to preserve life. Still, no matter how advanced man becomes, the body remains vulnerable. The Root of the Conflict Yet, as real as these enemies are, they are not man's greatest enemy. The greatest enemy man has ever known is sin. Sin is the root of every sorrow, every heartache, and every broken home. It is sin that ignites wars, fills prisons, and destroys lives. The Bible asks, "From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?" (James 4:1). All suffering traces its origin back to the moment sin entered the world. Every hospital stands as evidence that sin reigns. Every cemetery bears witness to sin's power. Every grave marker testifies to this solemn truth: "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men" (Romans 5:12). Death is not natural; it is the wage of sin (Romans 6:23). A Spiritual Reality Today, sin is not distant; it is close at hand. Hatred, jealousy, pride, lying, and immorality are present in every city and every home. Violence and lawlessness increase year by year. God warned us, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34). These are not political problems or social accidents; they are spiritual issues caused by sin. The Ultimate Victory But, thank God, the preaching of the gospel does not end in despair. Though sin is the deadliest enemy man has ever known, it has been confronted and conquered by Jesus Christ. He came to "seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10). On the cross, He bore sin's penalty: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). Through His resurrection, He secured victory over death and the grave. The Scripture declares, "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death" (Revelation 1:18). Because Jesus lives, sin's power is broken and hope is made sure. Today, freedom is offered, forgiveness is available, and victory can be claimed. "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36). The greatest enemy can be defeated, not by man's strength, but by God's grace. Now is the time to turn from sin and run to Jesus. ******* Hear more messages and find out more about Oyster Bay Church of Christ in Crawfordville, FL on our website: https://www.obcoc.org/ And here: https://pearlsofwisdomonline.org/
