Local businesses like Papa Luigi’s held fundraisers, and a GoFundMe campaign drew in thousands from neighbors eager to help pay for "doctor visits and surgery." But by February 2026, the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office revealed a much darker reality: the boy never had cancer, and his actual medical care was fully covered by Medicaid.
