Breakfast Wrap: Iranian soccer players granted asylum

Published 1 week ago
Description

The federal government has confirmed five Iranian football players will remain in Australia after seeking asylum.

Home Affairs Minister, Tony Burke, says he met with the women last night and told them they were "welcome to stay in Australia".

It follows US President Donald Trump confirming on social media overnight that he had spoken to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about the team, and that he was quote "on it".

Then, the fallout from the war continues, with at least one Australian bank predicting inflation above the RBA's target band if oil price surges don't subside.

And we also turn to the flooding situation in Katherine and the concern about crocodiles in floodwaters.

Recap the morning's news, politics and global affairs with the Breakfast Wrap.
