Prayer for When We Feel We Have to Prove Ourselves

Loving God,

You know how easily we fall into comparison—

measuring ourselves

and measuring others.

We worry that we are not enough.

And sometimes we make others feel

that they must prove themselves too.

But Your love does not work that way.

You loved us

long before we knew how to receive it.

So steady us in that love.

When we begin to question our worth,

remind us that Your love was already there.

And when we are tempted to judge,

to measure,

or to demand proof,

teach us another way.

Form in us the kind of grace

that welcomes rather than tests,

that encourages rather than withholds,

that makes room for people to grow.

Because the world changes

when people are welcomed

rather than measured.

Amen.
