Pioneering Pitchers & White Sox Pennant
Description
Dave Danforth, a college-educated pitcher, excelled in the early 1900s, leading the American League in appearances and saves. Kid Gleason, another notable player, made history with a trade between leagues and later coached the White Sox. Earl Harrist, a once-promising pitcher, struggled in a second stint with the White Sox and never returned to the majors. In 1959, Bill Veeck and partners, including Hank Greenberg, bought the White Sox, guiding them to their first pennant in forty years. In 2011, the White Sox played an exhibition game in Tucson to honor Christina Taylor Green, a nine-year-old killed in a shooting.
