Description
1. Daylight Saving Time (DST): Another bad "progressive" idea. For thousands of years, we used the sun to determine the time. Noon was when the sun was highest. That was when half of daylight had passed, and half was still to come. In 1907, an English builder named William Willet thought too many people were sleeping too late and not fully enjoying the morning sunshine in the summer.  He could have tried to persuade people to go to be earlier and get up earlier. But "progressives" don't think that way. He instead lobbied British politicians to make a law forcing everybody to change their cl0cks to Daylight Savings Time every summer. Wartime Emergency: His idea did not win much support.  However, in 1916, England imposed Daylight Savings Time as an emergency war measure to use less coal during World War One.  "Progressive" Democratic President imposed Daylight Savings Time as an "emergency" war measure in the United States. However, it was very unpopular and ended right after the war. President Franklin Roosevelt brought back Daylight Savings Time in the United States as an emergency war measure in 1942 during World War 2.  We have had it ever since.  It is now agreed that Daylight Savings Time no longer saves energy and probably uses more energy. That is because the savings of not using as many electric lights in the morning is offset by using more electricity for air-conditioning  in the afternoon and evening. Opposed: Farmers always opposed Daylight Savings Time for disrupting the routines of people and farm animals for forcing them to work mornings in the dark. Railroads, bus companies and airlines opposed it for causing chaos with schedules twice a year. Many medical professionals claim that the sleep disruptions of time changes cause health problems to many individuals. Supporters: Daylight Savings Time is supported by owners of golf courses, retail shops, amusement parks and other summer resort businesses. Daylight Savings Time is a typical misuse of government to control people's behavior. 2. Traditional China and Shen Yun Pre-Communist China: Grossman describes China before 1949 as a beautiful and pleasant country that was a close friend of America. After World War 2, our top government officials betrayed our friends in China and helped the Communists take power. We let Communist Russia give Chinese Communists the weapons we had given them to fight Germany. We also let the Communists take all of the weapons they captured from the Japanese. At the same time, we stopped helping our friends in China defend themselves. Later, we found out that this was because many Communists loyal to Russia held high positions in the United States government.  These same people also turned much of Vietnam over to the Communists. Shen Yun Recommendation: If you want to know what China was like before Communism, you should watch the Shen Yun performing arts show. It has beautiful music, brilliant dancing and spectacular special effects. Local Event Details: Location: Miller Theater, Philadelphia. Dates: April 15–19, 2026. The purpose of government is to equally protect the rights, property and safety of every citizen. When we limited government to that purpose, we lower taxes, higher income, more freedom and more opportunities.  But "Progressives" began to change that during 1930s. They said government was needed to "help" people. But the problems is that government can't spend money to help some people unless it takes money by force from somebody else. Everybody loses when people decide to succeed by playing politics and getting money from the government rather than by working, saving, investing and producing. Back in 1787, Benjamin Franklin warned against creating a government that offered men unlimited
