Back to EpisodesDavid Farley Chosen by One Nation for Farrer Byelection
Description
David Farley, a sixty-nine-year-old irrigator from Narrandera, has been chosen as One Nations candidate for the federal byelection in Farrer, New South Wales. Farley won a party ballot over two rivals, following Sussan Leys resignation from the seat she held for twenty-five years. The traditionally conservative rural electorate spans one hundred twenty-six thousand square kilometers and polls are set for nine May. Party leader Pauline Hanson and former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce attended the selection event, praising Farley as the right fit for the community. Farley positioned One Nation as the real choice against falling living standards under Labor. The byelection tests new Liberal leader Angus Taylors leadership and One Nations growing popularity, as Liberals and Nationals have not named candidates yet. Michelle Millthorpe, a climate change advocate, plans to run again as an independent, while Labor is not expected to compete. Nominations close on thirteen April.
