Hot Damn... WE JUST WATCHED THE BRIDE! (Out of Theater Reaction & Review)

Description

MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL'S BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN!! Fresh out of the theater, we’re giving our first reactions & review of The Bride! (2025) — the highly anticipated gothic reimagining of the classic Frankenstein mythology from writer and director Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Lost Daughter), marking her second feature behind the camera. Blending horror, romance, and dark satire, The Bride! revisits the legendary monster story through the perspective of the Bride herself, exploring identity, autonomy, and what it means to be brought to life in a world that fears you. Set in a stylized monster-filled universe inspired by classic Universal horror, the film follows the Bride as she awakens into existence and begins forging her own identity beyond the expectations of the scientists and monsters who created her. Jessie Buckley (The Lost Daughter, Men) takes center stage as the Bride, delivering a haunting and unpredictable performance opposite Christian Bale (The Dark Knight, Ford v Ferrari), whose mysterious monster figure becomes central to the film’s strange romance. The film also boasts a stacked ensemble including Annette Bening (American Beauty, Nyad), Penélope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Peter Sarsgaard (The Batman, Shattered Glass), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Spider-Man: Far From Home), each contributing to Maggie Gyllenhaal’s bold, genre-bending vision. With its lavish production design, dark humor, and feminist twist on the Frankenstein mythos, The Bride! stands as one of the most unique genre films of the year so far. In this out-of-the-theatre review, we break down the performances, the tone, the monster romance at the center of the story, and whether Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ambitious follow-up to The Lost Daughter delivers on its promise.
