Ep. 46 Finding Beauty in the Dark with Dr. Heather Evans- Advocate, Speaker, Author, and Founder of Evans Counseling Services and The Voices of Survivors Project
Description
Synopsis:
If you’ve been part of the anti- sex trafficking movement in the Lehigh Valley, you’re most likely familiar with the work of Dr. Heather Evans. She is a leader in the anti-trafficking space as well as in domestic/church abuse and trauma. I invited her to talk about the importance of developing a theology of suffering and keeping hope in light of the work she does. Suffering happens to us all and we have the choice of how we'll respond to it. Even if you’re not a counselor, she shares practical how-tos from the stay at home parent to a business CEO to come alongside those who are suffering.
In this episode you will hear:
- Encouragement to move from knowledge to action
- Engage your heart and mind while learning about others' stories
- Learn from survivors how to find hope
- Develop a theology of suffering through a Christian perspective
- Put on new lenses when suffering comes into our lives
- Post-traumatic growth reminds us of the resurrection that Jesus gives us in our lives
Resources mentioned:
- Carolyn Curtis James The Gospel of Ruth
- Howard Thurman Jesus and the Disinherited
- Tim Keller's Walking With God Through Pain and Suffering
