On March 4, 1877, Garrett A. Morgan was born in Paris, Kentucky. The influential Black inventor would go on to create an early three-position traffic signal and a safety hood gas mask used during a dramatic 1916 rescue. His innovations and entrepreneurial success left a lasting mark on American industry and public safety.
