When Hard Times Harden the Heart

“Do not harden your hearts, as… in the wilderness.” — Psalm 95:8

All of us will run into hard times.

Some of us are in those hard times right now.

The journey through the wilderness turned out to be a much longer, harder road than anyone expected.

Along the way, many lost their patience,

their hope,

their joy,

their gratitude.

Their hearts hardened.

It happens slowly —

when frustration replaces trust,

when fear overwhelms hope,

when the difficulty in front of us makes us forget the miracles behind us.

Psalm 95 is not just remembering their story.

It is caution for us in our own.

Hard times will come.

Will we allow them to harden our hearts?

Or will we hold on to hope, joy, and gratitude —

the things that keep our hearts tender?
