Description
QUIETUDE - Skender Makota & Henry Ellis - v1 original track from the early 2000's, part of unreleased sessions with my friend and college roommate, talented Henry Ellis. Originally written back in 2001 while we were both attending Berklee College of Music in Boston and shared the apt, but instead of doing school work and theory, we made smoked errrbz and made da BEETZ! Hence the 90s / 2000s sound (I actually miss a lot..) Reason was brand new, a revelation and we both spent hours just making new sounds with tools that were unavailable up to that point, hardware took time to set up, music software was barely coming out and other than recording and editing programs (Protools, Cubase etc), there were no programs not nearly as friendly as Reason AND REBIRTH (lets not forget..), where we could come up with few songs per day using the simple and intuitive virtual rack mimicking studio gear hardware in the rack, but in one 100/th of time and effort and at home... Sounded muddy etc, but then we import into Protools etc, it could be cleared up and other stuff added.. The importance of making the idea and recording it, so it doesn't fade was SO IMPORTANT, it really changed what I intended to do in life, as far as music.... which was compose, perform, produce and engineer and when I'd get bored, or needed a break, the acoustical INSTRUMENTS were always there, and JAZZ Theory etc is really a gift that keeps in giving... but electronic music was the path I'd go with! NEW and unknown... I still play piano, guitar, bass etc, but music creation software (unlike empty multi-tracker like Protools) was a game changer! We did a lot of great stuff together and while I usually try to stay cool when I see a great player, composer or musician in general, Henry left me speechless with the talent he possessed, but while struggling with personal demons which only made him immerse more in music creation. We lost touch, but I will look him up hopefully and reconnect, upload more tracks from those days of Reason 1, Rebirth and Protools replacing our SSL board (hated and loved the change, still... miss those faders..) The world was unknown and internet just taking hold yet we were happy... it seems kids nowadays don't get to experience such historical shifts (from analog to digital for ex), but hey: I am yet again surrounded by MOOGS so there ya go!
