This week we had the idea of making a breakout for IrDA data transfer: this is an older infrared bi-directional protocol that can mimics UART-like behavior with RX and TX running at 115.2Kbps. It could be useful for projects where you want to make a link between two boards but don't want the expect, complexity or overhead over RF. Simply transmit and receive whenever the two are within about a meter of distance. This used to be used for simple data transfer between computers, handhelds, or watches.
