Description
Texas politics just pulled out the popcorn! Firearms YouTuber-turned-political-upstart Brandon Herrera, a.k.a. “The AK Guy”, is back for round two against scandal-stricken Congressman Tony Gonzales in the Republican primary for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District. With the votes about to drop and the drama at fever pitch, it’s looking less like a campaign and more like a soap opera. Herrera, who nearly unseated Gonzales last time, is back with more name recognition, more cash and, apparently, more ammo. “Last time we lost by 400 votes. This time, we have every advantage, and Tony’s behaviour has only made things worse for him,” Herrera tells Harry Cole, barely pausing for breath between campaign stops. In September, Regina Santos-Aviles, a regional director for Gonzales, died by suicide after an alleged affair with the congressman. At first, even Herrera thought the rumour was too wild to be true—until the evidence piled up, including verified text messages released by Aviles’ husband. Gonzales’s response? Deny, deflect, and accuse everyone from disgruntled staffers to grieving widowers of blackmail and profiteering.
