Thousands of Australians have been left stranded by hostilities in the Middle East.

Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong says the government is trying to support Australians with regular travel advice updates and consular assistance but noting, quote, "there are limits to what any government can do in a fast-moving and uncertain environment".
