Iranian state television and state news agencies such as IRNA and Nour News confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in U.S.–Israeli airstrikes on Tehran. They described him as having attained “martyrdom” while carrying out his duties at his office. Iran declared a 40-day period of national mourning.
