Story Transcript:

Sk: V Bratislave na Veľkonočný pondelok pršalo len trošku.
En: In Bratislava, on Easter Monday, it rained just a little.

Sk: Dávid stál na námestí plnom pestrofarebných stánkov.
En: Dávid stood in the square full of colorful stalls.

Sk: Stánky plné kvetov, malovaných vajíčok a tradičných slovenských remesiel.
En: Stalls filled with flowers, painted eggs, and traditional Slovak crafts.

En: The atmosphere was lively, people with smiles walked among the vendors, children laughed and played with ribbons tied to beautiful willow whips.

Sk: Ale Dávid sa necítil tak veselo.
En: But Dávid didn't feel that cheerful.

En: He had recently returned to Slovakia after several years of studying abroad.

En: He was very much looking forward to being home, but the situation surprised him.

En: His parents were having serious disputes over the family business, and this affected his younger sister, Mária.

Sk: Bola akási vzdialená, unavená, vždy nervózna.
En: She was somewhat distant, tired, always nervous.

En: Dávid decided that by inviting Mária to a meeting at the Easter market, he might bring her closer, at least he hoped so.

Sk: "Mária, poď na trh, len my dvaja," presviedčal ju.
En: "Mária, come to the market, just the two of us," he persuaded her.

Sk: Keď nakoniec súhlasila, pocítil nádej.
En: When she finally agreed, he felt hope.

Sk: Na trhu prechádzali spoločne medzi stánkami, dávali si klobásy a kúštiky koláčikov.
En: At the market, they walked together among the stalls, having sausages and pieces of cakes.

En: They were having a good time, but Dávid felt it was time to talk about serious matters.

Sk: "Mária, musíme hovoriť o rodičoch a ich konflikte," začal opatrne.
En: "Mária, we need to talk about our parents and their conflict," he began cautiously.

Sk: Mária sa zastavila, jej tvár sa zmenila, výraz tvrdohlavosti a smútku jej zahalil oči.
En: Mária stopped, her face changed, an expression of stubbornness and sadness clouded her eyes.

Sk: Bola pripravená brániť svoje postoje.
En: She was ready to defend her stances.

En: "You left, you didn't see what was happening here," Mária replied.

Sk: Bola nahnevaná, ale i smutná.
En: She was angry, but also sad.

Sk: Dávid sa snažil pochopiť jej pocity, hoci sa mu to zdalo ťažké.
En: Dávid tried to understand her feelings, even though it seemed difficult to him.

Sk: Pokračovali v debate, zatiaľ čo ich obklopovali smiech a hlasy Veľkonočného trhu.
En: They continued their discussion, surrounded by the laughter and voices of the Easter market.

Sk: Mária konečne praskla.
En: Mária finally opened up.

Sk: "Mama sa cítila opustená, a ja som chcela len pomôcť," priznala.
