Published 3 weeks ago
Description

Modern slavery has become such a prevalent issue in Australia that it prompted the federal government to appoint its inaugural Anti-Slavery commissioner just over a year ago.

Forced marriages is among the issues the commissioner is investigating.

Federal Police reported 118 cases in the 2024 to 2025 financial year - up almost 30 per cent over the previous year - with fears other cases are going unreported.

Helena Hassani was a victim of a forced marriage and is now dedicated to saving more women.
