57. Scalable online business should fund unscalable work

Published 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Description
Endless growth and infinite scale are not, in and of themselves, good. So why build a scalable online business at all? So you can pour the profits into the vital work that cannot — and should not — scale. The farmer growing vegetables. The nurse sitting with someone who's sick. The teacher coaxing a child toward better questions. The logic of capitalism is all about removing the friction that gets in the way of growth. And some friction is wasteful, sure. But some friction is sacred — it's the thing that makes life worth living. The logic of optimization can't tell the difference. We can. And we must.
