Description

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's written to his British counterpart Keir Starmer saying Australia would support the removal of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of succession.

Andrew stopped working as a member of the royal family in 2019 and was stripped of his titles by King Charles last year over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

But he remains eighth in line to the throne.

Complex laws mean if the UK wants to scrap the former prince's right to the throne, it also needs countries where King Charles is the head of state, including Australia and Canada, to also pass new legislation.

Meanwhile the former British Ambassador to the United States, Lord Peter Mandelson, has been arrested by police in London on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

He was previously fired from his role over the depth of his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Residents in various parts of Australia are being warned about heavy rain and flooding, from north Queensland down to Victoria.

Residents in the Barkly and Central Australia are being hit particularly hard after hundreds of millimetres of rain.

Dozens of roads have been closed, impacting transport and freight across the Northern Territory.

Ukraine's European allies are reaffirming their support as the continent marks four years since the start of Russia's invasion.

Russian ‌forces have killed tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians and destroyed cities.

US president Donald Trump's promise to end the war in a day hasn't materialised and while Ukraine says more peace talks could take place this week, so far they've failed to stop the bloodshed.

A large search of bushland on the outskirts of Sydney's north west is expected to resume today as authorities try and find any sign of a Sydney grandfather they believe was mistakenly kidnapped.

Detectives say the search is linked to a tip off about a stolen car, which may have been used to transport Chris Baghsarian who's 85 and needs daily medication.
