Albanese wants to stop Andrew from ever becoming King | ABC News Top Stories

Description

Australia's Prime Minister has become the first Commonwealth leader to back the removal of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of succession, over his ties to convicted sex offender Jeffery Epstein.

Anthony Albanese says Australians are disgusted by all of the revelations about the Epstein files.

The former prince is eighth in line for the throne, raising the extremely remote possibility he could one day be King of Australia.

Axing him from the line of succession requires the UK and other countries where King Charles is head of state to change their laws.

It comes as UK's former ambassador to Washington is arrested over suspicion of misconduct in public office after allegations he shared confidential documents with Jeffrey Epstein.

Construction of Australia's first high-speed rail line could start as early as 2028, as the federal government injects more money into the project.

The government's going to announce today further planning work to lock in the design, scope and cost of the line between Sydney and Newcastle.

And a wave of violence has erupted across Mexico as cartel operatives seek revenge for the capture and killing of the notorious international drug lord 'El Mencho'.

Cartel members have been torching buildings and blocking roads and at least 25 members of the Mexican National Guard have been killed in the retaliatory attacks.

Australians are being warned about visiting the country.
