Description
As 34 Australian women and children with links to ISIS seek to escape the Al-Roj detention camp in north-east Syria, the situation in the region continues to deteriorate.
About two thousand women and children are being held at Al-Roj.
At its peak, the camp housed tens of thousands of people, when US-backed Kurdish forces helped defeat Islamic State fighters in 2019.
Since then, the camps have been administered by Kurdish-led authorities. But after a recent military offensive by Syrian government forces, its future is uncertain.
