It was 1846 and western expansion was in full swing in the United States. The country was coming out of the Era of Good Feelings with James Monroe as its President and winning the War of 1812. People started heading west in search of new opportunities, free land and the idea of Manifest Destiny. People packed up everything they owned and headed west on The Oregon Trail.
