恭读创世纪  2:7-9; 3:1-7
上主天主用地上的尘土做成人形，在他鼻孔内吹了一口生气，人就成了一个有灵的生物。上主天主在伊甸东部开辟了一个乐园，就将他所造成的人安置在里面。上主天主使土地生长各种好看又好吃的果树，在乐园的中央有一棵赐生命的树，和一棵辨别善恶的树。
蛇是上主天主所造的一切动物中最狡猾的。蛇对女人说：“天主真的说了，你们不可以吃乐园中任何树上的果子吗？”女人对蛇说：“乐园中所有树上的果子我们都可以吃，只有中央那棵树上的果子不可吃；天主说过，你们不可以吃，也不可以摸，不然便会死亡。”蛇对女人说：“你们决不会死的！因为天主知道，你们哪一天吃了那果子，你们的眼睛就会开了，就会像天主一样能够辨别善恶。”女人看见那果子实在好吃又好看，并且能增加智慧，就很羡慕，她摘下果子，自己吃了，又给她的丈夫吃，他也吃了。于是二人的眼睛立刻开了，发现自己赤身裸体，就用无花果树的叶子，编了裙子来遮盖身体。——上主的圣言。

读经二（哪里罪恶越多，哪里恩宠格外丰富。）
恭读圣保禄宗徒致罗马人书  5:12，17-19
弟兄们：罪恶藉着一个人进入了世界，死亡也藉着罪恶随后而来；于是死亡便殃及了全人类，因为人人都犯了罪。
如果因一个人的过犯，死亡就掌了权；那么，那蒙受丰富的恩宠和正义恩惠的人，更要藉着耶稣基督一个人，在生命中掌权了。
这样看来：就如因一个人的过犯，全人类都被定了罪；同样，因一个人的正义行为，全人类都得到成义，并获得生命。正如因一个人的违背命令，全人类都成了罪人；同样，因一个人的服从，全人类都成了义人。——上主的圣言。

福音（耶稣四十昼夜禁食，三退魔诱。）
恭读圣玛窦福音  4:1-11
那时候，耶稣被圣神带到旷野，受魔鬼的试探。他禁食四十昼夜之后，就饿了。试探者前来对他说：“你若是天主子，就命令这些石头变成饼吧！”他回答说：“经上记载：‘人不仅是靠饼生活，更要靠天主口中说出的每句话。’”随后，魔鬼带他到了圣城，使他站在圣殿的顶上，对他说：“你若是天主子，就从这里跳下去吧！因为经上记载着：他为你吩咐了他的天使，用手托住你，免得你的脚碰在石头上。”耶稣回答说：“经上又记载：‘你不可试探你的天主上主。’”魔鬼又带他到一座极高的山上，把世上所有的国家和它的荣华指给他看，对他说：“你若跪下朝拜我，我就把这一切都送给你。”耶稣回答说：“撒殚，走开！因为经上记载：‘你要朝拜你的天主，上主，单单事奉他。’”于是魔鬼便离开了，就有天使前来伺候他。——基督的福音。

Reading 1

Genesis 2:7-9; 3:1-7

The LORD God formed man out of the clay of the ground
and blew into his nostrils the breath of life,
and so man became a living being.

Then the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east,
and placed there the man whom he had formed.
Out of the ground the LORD God made various trees grow
that were delightful to look at and good for food,
with the tree of life in the middle of the garden
and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the animals
that the LORD God had made.
The serpent asked the woman,
“Did God really tell you not to eat
from any of the trees in the garden?”
The woman answered the serpent:
“We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden;
it is only about the fruit of the tree
in the middle of the garden that God said,
‘You shall not eat it or even touch it, lest you die.’”
But the serpent said to the woman:
“You certainly will not die!
No, God knows well that the moment you eat of it
your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods
who know what is good and what is evil.”
The woman saw that the tree was good for food,
pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom.
So she took some of its fruit and ate it;
and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her,
and he ate it.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened,
and they realized that they were naked;
so they sewed fig leaves together
and made loincloths for themselves.
