Mets Lose Opener, Bichette Debuts

The New York Mets kicked off their Grapefruit League season with a close two to one loss to the Miami Marlins. Bo Bichette, playing third base for the first time, had a mixed day in the field and at the plate. Lefty Brandon Waddell impressed on the mound, striking out three in two scoreless innings. The Mets scored their first run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by A J Ewing. Veteran catcher Austin Barnes got the teams first hit, a single in the fifth. Ronny Mauricio reached on an error and stole second, showing potential at shortstop. M J Melendez made strong running catches in right field. The Mets look ahead to Sundays matchup against the Yankees.
