Prayer: Uprooting Anger

Faithful God,

You know how quickly frustration rises in us.

You know how easily it settles in.

We confess that sometimes we nurse what should have been released.

We replay what should have been surrendered.

We keep alive what You are inviting us to let go.

Search us.

Show us where anger has taken root —

where it lingers beneath our words,

where it subtly shapes how we see and respond.

Give us courage to name it

before it hardens into contempt.

Uproot the weed that chokes compassion.

Loosen the grip of resentment.

Restore what anger has strained or severed.

Teach us to feel without clinging.

To speak without wounding.

To stand firm without becoming harsh.

Form in us a heart where Your Kingdom can blossom —

steadfast in love,

slow to anger,

and generous in grace.

And when anger rises again,

remind us that we do not have to hold onto it.

Amen.
