Back to EpisodesNationals Spring Training: Rotation, Bullpen, Catcher, First Base Battles
Description
The Washington Nationals commence their spring training this Saturday with a split-squad day, featuring Jake Eder and Shinnosuke Ogasawara as starting pitchers. The competition for Opening Day roster spots is fierce, particularly in the starting rotation where Cade Cavalli, Foster Griffin, Miles Mikolas, and Brad Lord are currently leading, with Jake Irvin, Mitchell Parker, Josiah Gray, and others vying for the final spot. The bullpen, which was the leagues worst last year, has undergone significant changes, with new additions and veterans brought in to bolster the team. At catcher, Keibert Ruiz holds the top spot, but competition is expected from Harry Ford and veterans like Riley Adams. The first base position is also up for grabs, with Luis Garcia Junior, Andres Chaparro, Matt Mervis, Warming Bernabel, Yohandy Morales, and Abimelec Ortiz all in the running.
