Loving God,

Search our motives.

When we are tempted

to do good so we will be noticed…

when we want praise

more than doing what is right…

steady us.

Free us from the need to impress.

Free us from the desire

to be seen as righteous.

Move us instead by compassion.

Move us by genuine care.

Teach us to trust

that what is done outside the spotlight matters.

Let our unheralded acts of kindness

and service

become the building blocks of a Kingdom

formed from the inside out.

Shape us in the places

no one else sees.

Amen.
