Parents Fight Nursery Closures in Leicestershire

Published 1 week ago
Description

Local parents in Leicestershire are opposing plans to close four specialist nurseries for children with additional needs. MP Neil OBrien has arranged a meeting with the county council to challenge the proposal, which threatens Lift Beacon in Loughborough, Oasis Retreat in Melton, and Menphys nurseries in Wigston and Sketchley Hill in Burbage. The council aims to increase funding for specialist places in mainstream nurseries closer to childrens homes. OBrien is worried about the potential negative impact on families and the possibility of children not receiving adequate support in mainstream settings. The public consultation ends on February 22nd, and the report will be discussed at a scrutiny meeting on March 3rd and cabinet meeting on March 24th for a final decision.
