American civil rights activist and former politician, Jesse Jackson has died at the age of 84.

The Baptist minister ​a ‌close associate of fellow civil rights icon, Martin Luther ​King Junior and ran for ‌the Democratic ‌presidential nomination twice.

In a statement, his family says Jackson was a leader "⁠to the oppressed, the voiceless, and the overlooked around the ⁠world".
