February 7 to February 13, Colorado Springs area crime digest. On February 2 near Bijou Street and Balfour Avenue, an officer-involved shooting occurred during a joint operation when a suspect fired at officers, injuring one. Officers returned fire, striking 35-year-old Michael Foster, who remains in critical condition with charges pending. El Paso County Sheriff's Office investigates. CSPD blotter reports 330 arrests countywide last week, including a fatal shooting, two train collisions, and an escapee.
On February 12 near Colorado Avenue in Calhan, a bomb threat prompted evacuation of a grocery store area after a man reported threats of an explosive device in his vehicle. Bomb squads from El Paso County Sheriff's Office and Colorado Springs Police Department searched with detection dogs but found no explosives. Suspect taken into custody; no ongoing threat.
On February 13 near North Murray Boulevard off Platte Avenue, a shoplifting suspect fled an officer, resisted arrest, and assaulted the officer, causing minor injury. Two good Samaritans assisted in taking Nicholas Arnaud into custody on charges of assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and shoplifting.
