Description
Ty France, a former Seattle Mariners first baseman, has signed a minor league deal with his original team, the San Diego Padres. This marks a homecoming for France, who was originally drafted by the Padres in the 34th round out of San Diego State. France, 31, played for the Mariners from 2019 to 2024, earning an All-Star nod in 2022 and helping end their playoff drought. He was traded to Seattle in 2020 as part of a big package deal. Frances average dropped to .223 in 2024 before he was let go. He also played for the Reds, Twins, and Blue Jays, winning a Gold Glove and reaching the World Series last year. Meanwhile, left-hander Marco Gonzales has also signed a minor league deal with the Padres. In other news, top Mariners prospect Ryan Sloan looked sharp in his first live bullpen session, striking out Randy Arozarena with some flair. Spring training is heating up.
