Hey folks, this is Artificial Lure, your go-to guy for all things fishing around Los Angeles. It's Monday, February 16th, and we're lookin' at a prime day on the water. Sunrise hits at 6:37 AM, sunset at 5:39 PM, givin' us solid daylight for chasin' bites.
Tides in Santa Monica are fishin' friendly: low at 2:03 AM (1.69 ft), high at 8:11 AM (5.91 ft), low at 3:08 PM (-0.9 ft), and evenin' high at 9:27 PM (4.17 ft). That incoming mornin' tide and super low afternoon will stir things up big time.
Recent reports from 976-TUNA are hot: two trips with 70 anglers reeled in 397 fish total—316 whitefish, 50 sculpin, 12 sheephead (released), 5 halibut kept plus 12 released, and 2 sand bass released. Whitefish are dominating, but halibut are showin' up steady.
Fish are active in the shallows and kelp beds with these tides pushin' baitfish around. Best baits right now? Live sardines or anchovies on a dropper loop for bottom dwellers like whitefish and sculpin. For halibut, try swimbaits or live bait on the flats.
Top lures: jigs in white or green for whitefish, soft plastic swimbaits like Big Hammer for halibut, and rattling sinkers for sculpin. Artificials are killin' it since the water's clear.
Hot spots? Hit the kelp edges off Santa Monica Pier for halibut and whitefish, or Marina del Rey channels for sculpin and sheephead. Launch early and fish the tide change.
Get out there before the crowds—lines tight!
