It took more than 80 years for the Liberal party to elect a female leader and just nine months to remove her.

On Friday, Angus Taylor defeated Sussan Ley in a partyroom vote to become Liberal leader. Shortly after that, Sussan Ley announced she'd be retiring from parliament after 25 years of service.
