Today’s reading from Leviticus 17–18 and Matthew 27 brings us face to face with the weight of injustice and the steady presence of God in the middle of it. Both passages, in very different ways, highlight the seriousness of sin, the cost of holiness, and the reality that obedience does not always lead to immediate comfort or fairness.

Leviticus 17–18 underscores the gravity of sin and the boundaries God sets for His people, reminding us that holiness is not casual and that life before God carries weight. Together, these readings press us to consider how we respond when life feels unfair, when obedience feels costly, and when faithfulness seems unrewarded.

In Matthew 27, Jesus endures public humiliation, mockery, and physical suffering as He is crucified. The crowd taunts Him, religious leaders ridicule Him, and even those crucified beside Him join in the insults. Yet in the middle of sustained shame, Jesus remains anchored in His mission and trust in the Father, absorbing injustice without abandoning obedience.

They invite us to cultivate a deeper trust in God’s character, even when circumstances do not make sense, and to remember that formation often happens not in ease, but in endurance.
